Have you recently been faced with a situation where you need to ship a vehicle? Have you been scavenging the internet trying to figure how you go about hiring an auto transport service?
During your search you’ve probably run across the terms auto transport brokers and auto transport carrier. Many people don’t know that there is a difference between the two of these.
An auto transport broker specializes in the shipping and transportation of vehicles such as cars, trucks, boats, RVs, and motorcycles. Brokers do not own the trucks or personally ship your vehicle but they help you find a carrier to ship your vehicle. They gather quotes and contact the carriers and act as a middleman between you and the carrier. A broker will find a trucking company in your area to pick up and deliver your vehicle.
A carrier is the individual or company that actually employs drivers and operates the car transport equipment. The carrier can be contacted for a quote directly by the shipper (the individual or business that needs to move a car or other vehicle). You do not need a broker to do this for you but that is an option.
A carrier owns their own trucks, and they send one of their trucks to pick up your vehicle at a selected location.
Sometimes it is easier to find a company on your own by receiving a quote and sometimes a broker is able to do this easier. It is up to you which one you choose.
Just remember that there is a difference between a auto transport broker and an auto transport carrier. The main difference is that the broker does not own the trucks that will ship your vehicle and the carrier does!
